Username: amstard Superhero Name: The Azure Torch Alias: Timothy Ferguson (real name); "There are some who call me....Tim." Powers, Weaknesses, Skills: Timothy is in possession of one of the new Blue Lantern Rings, created by the Guardians Ganthet and Sayd and representing the emotion of Hope. He has the basic Lantern powers of Energy Shields and Flight at all times, but when around either a Green Lantern or a large upwelling of Hope, he is capable of much more potent feats; the Blue Lanterns are thought to be the most powerful of the spectrum, but are crippled by their dependence on the Green for their full power. Timothy is especially adept at defusing Anger or Fear by rooting out its cause (via the Ring) and addressing it in a humorous way, making it seem less important than previously thought. Appearance and Biography: Timothy was always the class clown - he wasn't the most athletic, or the smartest, so he tried to find his niche by being the funniest. His humor was never at anyone's expense, though, and so he escaped trouble most of the time in his youth; even his pranks tended to leave his victims smiling. As he grew up, he tried his luck at a few stand-up contests, but people seemed to prefer the kind of jokes that "made fun" of someone else...and Timothy just couldn't do that. One night, depressed at his reception by an audience, Timothy spotted an old man who looked like he was about to jump off of a bridge. Within minutes, Tim had him laughing and tears streaming from his eyes. The two hugged, and the old man left Timothy looking over the water, smiling. Suddenly, like a thunderclap, a Blue Lantern Ring blazed its way through the sky. "Timothy Ferguson, you have the ability to grant hope to those who have none. Welcome to the Blue Lantern Corps." In his normal identity, Timothy is a tall and lanky guy, dirty blonde medium-length hair whose clothes always seem a bit rumpled. His eyes are green and his nose is a bit pointed. As the Azure Torch (He always thought that being called "Green Lantern" if you're a member of the "Green Lantern Corps" was a bit like being called "Policeman" if you were a cop. Far too formal.) he wears the standard blue-and-blank jumpsuit of the Blue Lantern Corps, but the blue edges are wavier and a bit more flamboyant. I see Timothy as the guy who jokes around, even in combat, because it'll make people feel better. He's also probably Batman's worst nightmare . He takes things seriously, but his "serious" looks a lot like other people's day at the Barnum and Bailey circus. He truly strives to embody his position as a Blue Lantern of Sector 2418, though, and, in any major crisis, his first action will always be to protect the civilians...while laughing.

Superhero Name: Mr. Murphy
Alias: Fareed Al-Malaki (second generation Arabic immigrant)
Powers, Weaknesses, Skills: Fareed is an ex-circus stuntman, blessed with exceptional agility and rigorous training. He can survive high falls, keep his balance on very thin ledges or surfaces, and tumble to dodge or to absorb the damage from a blow. He has honed these skills to a razor's edge, because he hates to rely on his ACTUAL superpower. What is this power? He's lucky.
Fareed's Luck manifests itself in amazing coincidences; anything can happen as long as the odds on it aren't worse than about 1000000:1. Lightning strikes out of stormy skies, births of triplets and quadruplets, and lottery winners are all more likely where Fareed walks. Unfortunately for him, his Luck is entirely outside of his control, and he has no awareness of when exactly it happens. It does, however, have the side effect of making him almost impossible to kill, as then his chosen name comes into play - "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong" for anyone directly acting against him. If someone wanted to kill him, the best way would be to eliminate any opportunity for random chance to intervene - like, say, take him out to the middle of a barren field, which had been structurally tested, and poison him with a pre-checked toxin that had enough lethality to kill a blue whale.
Fareed HATES this, although he's not aware of the full extent of his Luck, and strives to avoid situations where he needs to rely on it. He chose his superhero name, however, because he simply couldn't think of a better one that described his powers and, at the same time, confused his opponents.
I see Fareed as being not quite as physically powerful as other in-genre characters (like Batman) but making up for it with versatility and, of course, his Luck. He's also a bit paranoid, feeling like every single beneficial coincidence is the result of his blasted power and, often, trying to reject them just because his Luck might have brought it.
Appearance and Biography: Fareed is 19, of Jordanian descent (dark skin, black hair and dark brown eyes) and very attractive. He's also a devout Christian, which causes some strife with others in the Arab community (as the majority therein are Muslim, which shouldn't matter, but often does). He is beginning a vigilante career because, honestly, he has a bit of a death wish. He wants to see SOMETHING defeat this accursed talent of his, and so he puts himself in situations where others could try to destroy him. Due to his reluctance to rely on his luck, however, he has honed his perceptive and athletic abilities.

Approved, of course. Just one question. Does he have a job? Run a detective agency? Have a sort of reputation around Gotham?

He's more a....gopher. A guy you know will, eventually, get what it is you need him to get or find what you need him to find.
