"Kitty has claws," Skeets gave a low whistle as Selena departed. Booster threw him a look and then glanced down at the floor, around the room, avoiding eye contact with Tim. It didn't help that the younger man had a jovial personality, that with his gung-ho spirit and being bedecked all in blue, he unfortunately reminded Michael of Ted Kord, the former Blue Beetle and his best friend. And, of course, there was that whole Lantern thing.
"So..." he sighed reluctantly as the atmosphere was getting a bit awkward, "Where do you hail from, T-- Torch, was it?"

Surprised, Torch glanced over at Booster Gold. "I'm from here...the great and bedeviled city of Gotham, home of Batman and Robin. Maybe I should get a job as a tourism consultant?" He smiled at Booster. "And, hey, if I said something earlier that upset you, I'm sorry. Did a Lantern punch you in the face or something once upon a time? Or, in the future, are they all big jerks that nobody likes?"
At that, Torch considered for a moment. "Hey...what IS the future like, anyway? How far ahead did you say you came from, again?"

OT: sorry for the delay, amstard - i almost never have any idea what to write and i couldn't think of a thing all day but i figure i better not leave you hanging any longer "Born and bred, huh?" he replied more as a statement than question, whispering to Skeets: "I told you there had to be something in the water here." "From around the 25th century, and I can tell you that even then," he turned slowly to face Tim, slightly drawing his words out, "..No Lantern has ever gotten close enough."

Torch laughed. "Good stuff! Well, hey, have you seen Reed? I was going to see if he needed a ride back home or not."

"The way he shot out of here? I'd say he was halfway to the moon by now."

Torch looked confused. <<Huh? Why would he run off? I hope nothing's wrong...>>

The Basement
Barbara was again at work on her computer when Selena arrived, and took a moment to realize that she wasn't alone in the room. When she did, she tapped three more keys then turned to face Selena. "Thank you again for coming to help. I appreciate it." She smiled a bit. "I didn't realize that you were seeing Alfred. I'm glad you're doing that as well; he's used to having much more company than he has of late... I've been a bit worried about him."

The Basement
Selena Kyle let her gaze drift a bit from Barbara, a soft look in her eyes. "It started out as me. . mourning. I was a bad kitten, I still don't want to believe he is gone. . and his pillows still smell like him. I am now convinced Alfred sprays them with Bruce's cologne after he washes them. . But, the good butler caught me. Fed me scones, and gave me someone to talk to. " She sighed, smiling. "And it felt good to help. When he told me Dick didn't have the time to help with Wayne Corp, I felt it was my duty to watch over it for Bruce. . ."
She looked at Barbara, her eyes tearing. "I am overstretching my duties, I am sure. Bruce and I weren't exactly together when. . . " Her voice choked, and she quickly changed the subject. "It is nice talking to Alfred. Sometimes I think he's the only friend I have who isn't of the feline persuasion."

Booster ran a hand through his goldilocks and studied the consternation evident by the shadow that had fallen over Tim's facade. "I was under the impression you had two just met?"

Barbara gazed at Selena a moment, then nodded. "Bruce's sense of self-sacrifice has always been overdeveloped... yet, when he was with you and allowed himself to be, he was truly happy. I don't think anyone else ever made him such..."
She glanced to the computer, apparently unable to keep her eyes off it long while in the same room as it, then back to Selena. "Honestly? We'll take all the help we can get, including with WayneTech. Hush's only value there is keeping control in our hands, instead of having it fall to the Board and their desire for profit over everything else, and everyone in the Manor is overburdened. I would help out myself, but Dick won't let me near the books... then again, as far as Dick is concerned, I'm only welcome in the Manor because Bruce welcomed me there."

The Basement
Selena Kyle went quiet as she listened to Barbara speak, wrapping her arms around herself and smiling much like a little school girl. Her eyes brimming with happy tears. Though she wasn't sure if what Barbara had believed was actually true, but the thought that it might be, made Selena very happy.
Gotham Streets
Walking in the pouring rain, Reed had slowly shifted back to Owen, his hair shortening and eyes turning blue. Still, he was a rather strange sight to the few people braving the wet streets. A shirtless man, metalic thing on his arm, sulking down the nearly empty alleyways.
Just as the rain started to pound harder, Owen managed to duck into a abandoned bus stop and huddled on the bench, clutching himself for warmth.
And than, he sneezed.

"Well, sure, we've just met...but we had a little bit of time to talk between the battle and showing up here. I gave him a ride here, and he seemed fine all through tonight...I just didn't expect anything to go wrong."

Barbara's eyes turned on Selena again, and she smiled a bit. "You're part of the family, as far as I'm concerned. Now... I'm ready to head out; just not sure where I'm heading, and I seem to recall being your ride. Manor or home?"

"I wouldn't sweat it, kid. It almost always boils down to money."
"That's love, sir."
"Yeah, yeah, love of money, I think he got it, Skeets."
Skeets' eye audibly clicked and the small bot murmured to himself.

The Next day, Mid-afternoon
Hidden behind a car in the parking garage of Barbara Gordon's apartment building, Selena Kyle was talking sweetly to the kitty she held within her arms. Soon, Selena heard the purr of Barbara Gordon's car as it pulled into her parking spot. A few moments later, Barbara was in her wheelchair and unloading groceries from the trunk of her car.
"Action." Selena Kyle whispered, placing the cat on the concrete and giving it one final gentle nudge in Barbara's direction.
The cat seemed to need no further prodding, as it limped along towards Barbara Gordon. Once it was close enough to smell the food, it gave out an inquisitive mew causing Barbara to look down at the critter approaching her chair.
It was a long haired scottish fold, its ears were folded down against its head, with a calico pattern of orange, mocha brown with patches of white. What was the most extraordinary about the cat was that it was missing its left rear leg, but moved as if it didn't notice or simply didn't care.
"Meooooowr." It said again, staying a short distance from Barbara, as if unsure of how to proceed.
Its coat was a little matted, causing Barbara to believe its been on the streets for at least a little while.
The Richards' Place.
Owen Richard rolled over in bed, causing his mother to readjust the wet cloth she had been using to keep his fever down.
"Honestly Owen. . . walking home in that storm last night. You're lucky you didn't catch your death by cold. And because of some stupid misunderstanding about a woman you may not even be interested in! Like I told you last night, that Tim fellow was teasing you about this red headed girl. And what you over heard didn't sound the least bit romantic to me." Anita fussed as rearranged Owen's covers.
"Now, I know you've never been too. . socially inclined. . . but I think you should try to hang out with your new. . ." She smirked a little. "coworkers. Maybe you'll find someone you can open up too?"
Owen nodded, murmuring his agreement.
