Oa
Kyle Raynor floated down next to John Stewart. "That's it. We couldn't get most of the rings... they left of their own accord. But we collected what we could."
John sighed. "You haven't heard Kilowogg's report, have you? They didn't scatter... they flew off in one direction. Take one guess which direction that was?"
Kyle blinked. "Don't tell me."
"Earth."
Arkham Asylum
Jonathan Crane sighed, gazing at the wall, his lanky form folded to fit on the small bed of his cell. "Another escape, another capture. Tell me, old friend, why do we keep trying?"
Jervis Tetch shook his head. "What else can we do? Stay here, hoping for a hopeless 'cure?' No, we do that which is our nature. More tea?"
"Please."
Wayne Manor
Barbara Gordon rolled out of her suite, for once eager to face the day. As she made her way toward the elevator that Alfred had long ago installed, she waved to Connor Kent. "Morning, Kon. Any news?"
Connor shook his head. "Nothing I heard of any importance. Kal hasn't called in a couple of days, but that's to be expected. Anything on your end?"
"The Justice Society made it back to Earth in one piece, and that's all that's been on the wire lately. Since we finished the cleanup after Bane, things have been quiet. I'm going to meet Owen for lunch."
The Dark Faith's Bunker
Bane hadn't emerged from solitude in days, and it worried Shiv greatly. The man was as devout in the Faith as any he had met, yet he was also quite mad, and had become obsessed with the man among the heroes who he could not break.
Solitary
Bane growled, punching the wall again, the mortar cracking under the force of it. It had taken days to repair the damage to his venom tank, and his face was still marked from the bite his nemesis had delivered.
YOU SEEK POWER
Bane blinked. "Who's there?"
MAKE YOUR RAGE MY POWER, AND MY POWER YOURS.

Arkham Asylum
As Hatter twitched in his sleep, Scarecrow sat awake, gazing out the barred window to the city below. A soft yellow light floated through the window, hovering directly before his eyes.
YOU MASTER FEAR.
Crane nearly leapt from the bed at the sound, then glanced at the bed opposite him, where Tetch hadn't been disturbed at all. Telepathy. He spoke quietly. "I am fear."
MAKE YOUR MASTERY MY POWER, AND MY POWER YOURS.
The glow faded, revealing a yellow ring, which fell into Crane's hand.
Wayne Industries
Bruce had just bid farewell to Lucius Fox and Jack Powers, and was about to climb into the car - a 2011 BMW E-82 convertible - when he heard a voice.
YOU MASTER FEAR.
Wayne Manor
As Tim Drake completed his exercises and got off the phone with Amanda, the room was suddenly bathed in a bright blue light. As he rubbed his eyes to clear his vision, a voice filled his mind.
YOU INSPIRE HOPE.

Wayne Manor
Tim was utterly confused. The voice was in his head, he was sure of it. But what exactly was speaking?
"And I am glad too. Hope is something this world needs more of." He said in response.
Nattie's Deli
Owen had met Barbara there, precisely on time. The two of them were now dining on delicious deli sandwiches, loaded potato soup and excellent sweet tea. Eating at Nattie's has become somewhat of a ritual for them and they stop by at least once a week. After taking a bite of his dressed BLT, Owen looked up at Barbara and grinned.
"How are you enjoying your stay at Wayne Manor? The other day when I picked you up for dinner I was so nervous. All those kick-ass people living under one roof, I was worried one would disapprove and not let me see you. Though, Bruce seems different than I expected him to be. I suspect Selena has a bit to do with that."
Kyle Charities
Selena Kyle sat behind her desk, on the phone with her frantic personal assistant. "Yes.. Yes I understand. Of course. Take as much time off as you need. Your mother needs you. . . . Uh huh. . . .uh huh. . .Oh Claire?. . . Yes, it is her last year of high school. . would be a shame to move her away. . . And she has a scholarship to Kane-Hastings Institute of Technology and Art? Yes we can't let that slip away. . . . Of course you don't feel safe having her live here alone. . . . Tell you what. Let her stay with me. Wayne Manor has plenty of rooms, and excellent security. And I can be there to keep Claire focused on her studies though I doubt she'll need me. . . .Of course I don't mind. . . I don't think Bruce will mind either. . . Of course, send her over there tonight with her belongings. I'll lay the groundwork. . .Okay, goodbye."
Selena chuckled slightly. "Another one to ad to the house. Though I doubt her mother would approve of the real reason I invited her to stay. Her talents are too good to waste."
The Clock Tower
After being released from school early because of some bogus gas leak, Claire had headed to the Clock Tower and was now seated at a table going over her science homework. She could complete the homework with ease, but she enjoyed proving that some of the things printed in the text book were wrong. And she was lucky to have a teacher who appreciated her effort.
She chose the Clock Tower for her studies because it was quiet, and there was a chance she could speak to Hawk, Dove, Canary, or Huntress. She always enjoyed that.
The Police Commissioner's Office
Jim Gordon had just finished the last bite of his homemade tuna sandwich when his cell phone had rung. He smiled when he saw the name on the display and immediately answered. He was still at lunch, he could take a few minutes for a personal call.
"Tess, How have you been?" Jim asked, the smile not leaving his lips.
"Good Jimmy. I miss you. I wish you would of reconsidered and come up to Boston with me for a few days. My family would love to meet you." The sophisticated female voice said over the line.
"Work, Tess.. I can't.."
"I know, I know." She cut him off, the smile still in her voice. "One of the things I like about you is that you're a dedicated man. So when am I going to be able to meet your daughter? I know you haven't told her about us yet. Or should I say be formally introduced as your lover rather than just a friend of the family?"
"A pointed question, Tess." Jim Gordon chuckled slightly. "Soon. I'll find the right time. But now isn't it. Barbara recently informed me that her and the surgeon she has been seeing are now exclusive. I want to give her time to enjoy that feeling, time for them to bond. He could be the one Tess. And if he is, I can honestly say Barbara would be blessed to have him."
"That's wonderful! Young love! My own Jackie has been hinting that he is dating someone, but the poor boy is too intimidated to tell me who." Tess's voice sounded pouty. "No matter, I plan to find out the moment I return to Gotham. Well.. Maybe not the moment I return. That's usually reserved for you Jimmy."
Jim Gordon's ears turned slightly pink as he blushed at her words. "Goodbye Tess."
"Goodbye Jimmy. I love you."
"I love you too."

Wayne Manor, Second Floor, third room on the right
Tim stood there, his telephone still in his hand after hanging up with Amanda, waiting to hear that voice again. It was talking about hope. It said he inspired it. That was a great compliment and all, but what was doing the talking? He glanced around the room, looking for anything out of place. If this is one of Damien’s pranks, I’m going to shave his little punk head.
MAKE YOUR HOPE MY POWER, AND MAKE MY POWER YOUR OWN.
Tim heard the voice louder now, and he began to look around a little panicked. “Look, you’re not a Zodiac Demon, are you? I don’t think there was a demon of hope.” He chuckled slightly. “I’m not agreeing to anything until I know what’s going on.”
The glow coalesced, forming into a blue ring that fell into his hand. MAKE YOUR HOPE MY POWER, AND MAKE MY POWER YOUR OWN.
It took him a moment to recognize what he was holding. After all, he had rarely seen one in blue. A smile lit up his face, a warm feeling spreading through his veins. “I’m honored.” was all he could say as he slipped on the ring and accepted its terms.
Jim Gordon’s apartment
Jim Gordon was doing what he always did on his precious one day off a month, working. Seated at the desk in his den, with Carlos sleeping on his feet, Jim was finishing off a pile of paperwork he had brought home from the station. Even though the prison break had happened some time ago, the paperwork for it seemed endless. In fact, he was sure he had already filled out the form he was working on... in triplicate....
He shook his head, frustrated, and decided to take a break. Jim had left the office early today, to try to get away from work, but like it had in the past his tactic had failed. He pushed himself away from the desk, barely disturbing his fat cat as he moved his feet. Jim’s first impulse was to reach for his phone. Halfway through dialing Barbara’s number he paused, than replaced the phone, remembering she had a lunch date today and did not want it to seem like he was keeping tabs on her.
A purple glow rose from the floor, coalescing into a violet orb floating before him.
You rely on love.
Jim Gordon stared at the violet orb in front of him, even removing his glasses to see if he still saw it without them. “I’ve been working too hard.” He mumbled, than glanced at his cat who seemed to be noticing the orb as well.
You rely on love.
“If you mean love for my daughter, for my town, you are correct. I certainly wouldn’t be working today if I didn’t.” He said somewhat gruffly to the orb, wondering how he would explain this to his daughter? She would think him mad.
Make your love my power, and make my power you own.
“You’re speaking nonsense. What power? What are you talking about?” Jim Gordon had at first doubted he was actually speaking to something, and was sure he was just overworked. But.. he had thought Batman was a hooligan at first, and had been proven wrong. Many strange things have happened in Gotham, it was about time something happened to him. “.... I must know something first. Are you benevolent?”
Make your love my power, and make my power your own.
“.... Fine. So be it.” Gordon gruffly agreed, partially to get this thing to stop talking.
The light coalesced into a purple ring, which dropped into Jim’s hand.
“A ring.” He took it between two fingers and held it up to the light to examine it. Noting its odd design, the weathered cop smirked a bit. “A Lantern Ring. Oh what would my daughter say?” He bemused as he slipped it on a finger.
Gotham Roller Rink
Jack Houston stood rather unsteadily in the skates that Stephanie had coerced him into. He had been enjoying watching her glide across the floor with the grace of an olympian when suddenly she appeared at the wall. After smiling her killer smile, she had easily talked him into renting a pair of skates. Now Jack Houston was about to step onto the heavily waxed floor and make an utter fool of himself.
“You really sure you need to see me skate? I haven’t done it in years...” He said, smiling at his date, trying to hide his uneasiness.
Stephanie laughed. “No better reason to try again, is there? Get your skills back.”
“Back? You’re implying I had skills at one point.” Jack chuckled as he took a step out onto the floor and his feet promptly flew out from under him and he landed hard on his rear. “Augh... right on the wallet too..” But he got back to his feet, and tried again, this time managing to glide forward a little while spinning both arms like windmills to keep his balance. “Impressive, aren’t I?” He joked, knowing he looked like an utter idiot.
A green glow began to rise from the floor next to him, and formed into a sphere. Instead of speaking, as the others had, it simply formed itself into a green ring, landing in his hand, emanating power through him. Stephanie blinked at it, her eyes widening. “What’s that?”
“Looks like something you’d get out of the bottom of a cereal box.” Jack held it up for her to see, feeling its power for sure, but unsure of what to think of it. “Though, I’ve never heard of things appearing out of thin air like that.”
Stephanie looked at it more closely. “Jack... that’s no toy. That’s a power ring. Green Lantern? That’s what that is.”
“Oh. Than it must be for you or something. I’m sure its made a mistake.” He said, not quite believing his own words. “.... these kinds of things don’t make mistakes, do they?” He asked, looking quite unsure.
“Power rings? They go to who needs them... at least, that’s what John told me when I tried out for the League.”
“You tried out for the Justice League? And they didn’t let you in?” Jack asked, raising his eyebrows in shock. He quickly slipped on the ring, than wrapped an arm around Stephanie’s shoulders and kissed the side of her head. “They don’t know what they’re missing.”

Jack's Apartment
After dropping Stephanie off, Jack had headed back to his place to put a heating pad on his recovering shoulder. He plopped himself on the couch, flipping on the TV, and than turning on his old game cube.
He glanced down at the ring on his finger, watching it catch the TV's light and give off a soft green glow as he picked up his controller. Steph seems to know what this is. A lantern ring. Why the heck did it choose me? Surely there are better candidates. Heck, Steph would of been a better candidate. At least she's a veteran to this.. hero game.
Jack let out a soft chuckle as he remembered an incident that happened yesterday at the precinct. Jack had run into the office to grab some paperwork on an old case, even though he was still on leave for his shoulder, and he had heard some rookies making crude remarks about Batgirl. He had enjoyed scaring the beejesus out of that pair, even if he couldn't admit why those remarks had upset him. The other detectives just thought he was dating a hot young girl. Called him a lucky bastard.
And he was. Jack Houston admitted it fully. He was a lucky bastard. He really had fun with Stephanie. Hopefully it would last.
As he directed his units in his Fire Emblem game, Jack couldn't help but wonder again about the ring on his hand.
Something is going down. Steph told me there is usually only one lantern per... quadrant, was it? Nevertheless, that Lantern of the Justice League is still around. And green. So did this mean something had happened to him? Or that the universe was in such dire straights that more Lanterns were needed? Jack sighed, fiddling with the ring. "I hope to god this doesn't mean I have to start wearing spandex.."

Wayne Manor
“... So if we were to eliminate the world’s military forces...”
Hawk answered Dove in a gruff voice. “We’d all be taken over by pirates. Or ninjas. Or supervillains. Or aliens. Or any of those other dozens of things that aren’t other military forces we end up fighting regularly. Hey, Alfred.”
Alfred sighed. “Must we hold a political debate here? This is meant to be a time for enjoyment. Mistress Selena is already on the lawn helping to set things up; you may join her if you wish.”
“I agree with Alfred. Don’t spoil all the fun! It doesn’t occur often that we can all get together.. outside of the capes and cowls.” Tim said, a broad smile on his face as he steps up behind Alfred and claps the butler on his shoulder. “Selena sent me over to ask you if we have enough ice to keep the drinks cool outside? Doesn’t want everyone tromping through the house with muddy feet and ruining the new tile.”
“If we do not, the Freeze Gun is in the cave. I would rather its plutonium power source be expended than have it sitting there ready and unused; you can make some ice.” Alfred smiled. “I must go and ensure that the roast will be finished on time.”
“Oo! I’ve never been allowed to play with the Freeze Gun before!” Tim said excitedly, before rushing off to the Bat Cave, probably the most excited person ever to make ice.
“Tsk tsk.” A voice came from behind the small group around Alfred. “Better be quiet about what’s in the cave. After all, isn’t Commisioner Gordon due in a few?” Asked Jack Houston, a smirk on his lips. “Jack Houston, by the way. Steph invited me. You must be Alfred.” He extended his hand to the butler. “Heard nothing but good things about you. Bordering on hero worship really..”
Alfred took Jack’s hand. “Master Jack. It is good to meet you. But I must be going.” He made his way into the Manor, leaving Jack with Hawk and Dove.
“Hey Hawk.” Jack said merrily, hitting the bigger man in the shoulder as a friendly gesture. “Its been awhile. My shoulder healed up fine though. How ya been?”
“Bored.” The large man’s voice rumbled. “Haven’t had a good fight in days.”
“Bored? Is that all you do? Fight? Come on now. Surely you have some hobbies. Something else to keep your interest? Do you like to fish?” Jack asked, looking somewhat dejected by his friend’s boredom.
“I read, I argue, I fight, I drink.” Hawk grinned. “But I’m the Avatar of War. Even if I’m enjoying something, if it doesn’t involve conflict of some sort, there’s something a bit off about it.”
“You should join a bowling league.” Jack said with a wide grin. “I bet you would rock at it. And people argue all the time during the matches.”
Hawk considered. “Might be. Though I don’t know if they make pins strong enough.” He laughed, clapping Jack on the back almost painfully. “Let’s go see Selena, shall we?”
“Sounds like a plan. I did stop by early with the idea of helping in mind. Hoping to score some points with the family, ya know?” Jack says still grinning and ignoring the pain in his shoulder as they walked out into the yard where Selena was instructing Owen on the proper set-up of a picnic table.
“No no, you extend the legs, than you set the lock in place.” Selena chided.
“Yeah... Yeah.. Third time’s the charm, I’ll get it this time.” Owen said, merrily teasing Selena for teasing him. He looked over and noticed Hawk and Jack arriving. “Hey guys. Come help me! Selena is such a hard task mistress!”
Hawk made his way over, helping Owen to get the table set up. “Ah, the epic struggle of man and lawn furniture! Never has there been a battle more long and bitterly fought.”
“Thank you for the help, Gentlemen.” Selena says, a soft smile on her face as she walks over to Jack and Hawk in turn and gave them a hug and a quick peck on the cheek.
“What are you thanking him for?!” Owen said, exasperated as he pointed to Jack. “He didn’t do crap!”
“Because he’s cute.” Selena said simply as she went over to the supplies she had gathered and spread out a table cloth on the picnic table.
Hawk laughed. “No argument there.” He went to go help collect supplies for the feast to come.
“Here, put up this table. I’m sure you can put it up by yourself, you’re so strong.” Selena says, smiling at Hawk, and winking to show that she was joking. “As for you two...Go string up these lights, we want it to look festive.”
“Lights. I can do lights.” Owen said with a grin, taking half from Selena, than looking at Jack as the detective took his half. “I bet I can string them up faster than you can.”
“You’re on.” And than the two hurried off to begin their light stringing race.
“Oh lord..” Selena sighed, shaking her head.
As Owen and Jack raced off to string the lights, Barbara Gordon arrived with her father at her side. “Selena.” Gordon said congenially as he took her in for a hug, something that surprised Selena but she went with it.
“Jim. Barbara. I am glad you could make it.” Selena says with a warm smile. “Jim, if you want, you can join Bruce in his study, maybe drag him out here for the festivities.”
Jim smiled slightly. “Be my pleasure.” Before leaving he glanced at Owen stringing up lights, than leaned down to whisper to Barbara. “Never let him string your christmas lights. Hire professionals, or get me to do it.” He warned before heading into the Manor and heading to Bruce’s study.
Barbara wheeled over to Owen and leaned up to steal a kiss. “You’re tangling them as you go... you’ll do it faster if you work more slowly. How’re you?”
“Apparently better than these lights.. My father always did them. When he lost his leg, he just left them up. All I get to do is replace bulbs.” Owen frowns slightly, but smiles when he receives the kiss. “How are you?”
As they spoke, Jim Gordon knocked on Bruce’s study door.

Timothy Ferguson, the Azure Torch, was returning from an excursion to the planet Almeni, where the locals looked like, well, to be frank, Oompa-Loompas. But purple. He shook his head and laughed as he flew towards Earth. "It'll be good to be home," he muttered to himself. "Got to get ready for the school year and all..."
Notification.
<<Yar?>>
Detecting extreme fluctuations in the Emotional Spectrum around Earth. <<Can you give me a visual interpretation?>> thought Torch as he looked at the blue gem of his home planet.
Assimilating data....visual transmission active.
As Torch looked again, he saw flashes of color warring with each other, blues and greens fighting with yellows and reds and oranges all over the planet...but concentrated most heavily right where he was headed.
<<WTF?? Ring, any possible causes?>>
Most probable cause: a breakdown in the Spectrum has caused the colors to seek out any and all champions in an attempt to rebalance it. Unfortunately, the requirement of sentience for those champions precludes the possibility of them working harmoniously toward a resolution.
<<....crap.>>

Torch increased his speed and landed just outside the grounds of Wayne Manor. He put on his "civvies" and started walking towards the party, a look of nervousness on his face. As he approached the area where Jack Houston, Owen, Barbara, Hawk, and the others were talking and working, his ring flashed blue as Houston's flashed green.
Notification. Green Lantern Ring within proximity. Green Lantern Ring has been fully charged; Blue Lantern limits unlocked. Full power available for use.
Tim Ferguson blinked for a moment. Then he smiled, walked towards Houston, and extended his hand, hopefully surprising everyone.
"Hi, it's nice to meet you. I'm Tim Ferguson, and I think we're going to be great friends."

Wayne Manor
"...'" Jack looked down at the ring on his hand, having noticing it flashing green before he looked up at Tim and took his hand to shake. "Jack Houston. Gotham PD." He flicked his gaze towards the mansion and than back to Tim Ferguson. "I've heard about you. You're one of the Lanterns, aren't you? Owen talks about you."

Tim smiled even more widely and said, "He does, huh? Yeah, we go back a ways. Yes, I'm a Blue Lantern and, up until recently...well, very recently, I haven't been 'All I Could Be', I suppose."
He flexed his hand and looked up at the sky. "Example forthcoming."
He pointed the Blue Lantern Power Ring up at the cloud-spotted dome above them.
Acknowledged.
The clouds turned a dark cobalt blue, and started thickening and rolling in more and more deeply, until the entire sky was covered with them. It looked a bit ominous, honestly.
Then, against the darker background of the clouds, a bright blue, almost white, line appeared and began tracing out a shape. It went around in a circle, then made two spots appear in the middle and another, curved, line under them.
It was a giant smiley face.
From that smiley face, a rain of blazing, glowing blue diamonds fell upon the grounds of Wayne Manor, miraculously not hitting anyone as they fell.
Tim grinned. "And that," he said, "is how we do that."

Inside Wayne Manor, Outside Bruce’s Study
Jim Gordon knocked again, a little louder this time. He knew Bruce could concentrate pretty hard on the books he read, and had probably not heard the first knock. The wait gave Jim time to ponder. He found it somewhat odd that Bruce suddenly seemed more social. And was back with Selena.
His purple ring flashed. Gordon twirled it on his finger, a small smile coming to his face. Perhaps Bruce finally came to his senses. If he hasn’t.. I’ll nudge him along.
The door opened, and Bruce favored Jim with a wide grin. “Come inside, Jim. It’s good to see you... I wasn’t sure you’d make it.” He stepped out of the way to allow his friend space to come through the door.
“Barbara wouldn’t let me stay away. Not that I wanted too.” Jim stepped through the door, glancing around the study. “How have you been Bruce? You seem to be ... quite happy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you grin like that.”
“I feel like I have... a new lease on life, or maybe just a new life. I’m sorry I’ve been so unavailable lately; I’m going to be easing my way back into things. Tell me... how have you been?”
Jim thought for a moment, pondering what he should tell Bruce first. The ring? His new love? Barbara’s new love? Work? Work. Work was... safe. “The same. Barbara says I work too much, which is probably true. Especially with the prison breaks and the mess with Bane.” Jim sighed, looking exasperated for a second. “Things are looking up though. I’ve been seeing a wonderful woman.”
Bruce perked up at that, moving to return to his chair and gesturing toward another for Jim. “Oh? Anyone I know?”
“You’ve probably met her at society affairs. Comes from old money, but not as affluent as the Waynes or Kanes. Her name is Theresa Romano. A divorcee. Was married to a Mitchell Houston... divorced him years ago when he lost some of her fortune at the track.” Jim Gordon couldn’t help but smile slightly. He had never been fond of Mitchell Houston, but Theresa has always been a woman of stature.
“I know Theresa, though not well. Congratulations, though... you deserve her.” Bruce grinned. “Has Barbara arrived already? I wasn’t expecting her to get here so early.”
“Owen was already here. Of course Barbara wouldn’t be far behind. You know how it is to be young and in love, experiencing that yourself at the moment.” Jim Gordon said, a smirk on his face. He was sure Bruce would balk at the upcoming conversation, unless he has changed drastically. Either way, Jim knew it was something he had to do. “So tell me. When do you plan to propose?”
“In love, yes, but young? I think we’ve both seen too much to still call me that.” Bruce smiled at the thought. “I hadn’t decided when. Soon, probably.”
Jim Gordon placed the hand with the ring on Bruce’s shoulder, making sure his friend caught a glimpse of it. “Trust me, this is not something to put off until later.” Gordon winked, than headed to the study door. “Come, we shouldn’t keep everyone waiting. Selena wanted me to drag you to the festivities. Perhaps on the way you can help me devise a plan on how to break the news about Tessie to Barbara?”
Bruce blinked on seeing the ring. A power ring... when did Jim get a power ring? He forced himself past that thought with some effort. “I’d just tell her, honestly. She’ll be glad you’re happy.”
“You’re right, of course.” Jim nodded. “I guess the problem is more that Tessie is Jack Houston’s mother, and Jack is one of Barbara’s oldest friends. And one of my detectives.” To Jim, there really was no problem, it was just a matter of timing when he broke the news to Barbara. “Tell me, how is Alfred? Is he adjusting well to all of the new people living here?” He asked as he knelt down to pick up Dutchess, who was rubbing against his leg.
“I’m not sure I’ve ever seen Alfred happier, to be honest. He loves having people around to take care of, and Selena is one of his favorite people to talk to. He’s taken to singing while he works in the halls.”
“And Damien? How is the boy adjusting?” Jim asked, scratching the white persian between the ears as he imagines Alfred singing. It made him smile.
“Damien... is problematic, at times, but he is learning. And he has a good heart... he honestly wants to help people; he’s just not very good at it. But with the good heart, the good at it will come in time.” Bruce started down the stairs.
“He is his father’s son.” Jim smiled softly, patting Bruce on his back as they headed down the stairs.

Outside
Barbara watched the sky erupt, the diamonds falling from the smiling face, and laughed softly. "Do you Blue Lanterns have Guardians, Tim? And, if so, what do they think of rains of diamonds?" She reached out, catching one in her hand easily and twirling it between her fingers. "It is rather nice, though."
Jim and Bruce made their way out the door, heading over to where the others were. Barbara waved to her father, gesturing the two of them over and watching Bruce. That smile is more natural than any that was his habit to wear before. Maybe death was what he needed to learn to live... or maybe this is all Selena's doing. "How long before the food, Bruce?"
At that moment, Alfred and Connor stepped out of the house, Connor carrying three trays of food and Alfred carrying one. Connor placed his burden onto the long table easily before helping Alfred with his. "All right, guys... my appetite's feeling pretty super. Let's eat."

Outside
Selena appeared at Bruce's side as the food was set down, lacing her arm through his and giving him a kiss on the cheek. She than turned to the others and grinned. "I hope you enjoy."
The picnic went off as planned, all of the food eaten.. Though half of it was eaten by Connor. Luckily Alfred had compensated for that and half the spread was more than enough for everyone else. During the meal, Jim Gordon smiled more than he usually did, and did not once question the odd gathering of people. He seemed to take great joy in seeing his daughter laugh at Owen's well prepared jokes. Selena was the best hostess, seeming to anticipate everyone's needs, sometimes going to the kitchen herself to fetch something and making Alfred stay in the festivities.
After the meal they staged a tackle football game to play on the lawn, though the teams seemed rather unbalanced with Hawk, Owen and Raheem on the same side. (The names were drawn out a hat, what could you do?) The other team, led by Tim Wayne, won however. Thanks to Connor's expert catch, and Jack's daring blocking that ended with him spraining his wrist and Steph taking him to the ER. They returned just in time to see the fireworks Selena had set up.
Damien laid on the lawn, his head resting on Raheem's side as he scratched Butler behind the ears. Owen and Barbara had taken up a blanket, sharing it with Jim as they settled on the lawn for fireworks. Jim smiled just ever so slightly as Barbara settled her head on Owen's shoulders. Amanda, Tim, Jack and Steph shared a blanket and a few laughs, making a promise to double date once they found something all four of them could agree on besides crime fighting.
Sitting in the middle of it all was Selena and Bruce, their hands interlocked and fingers laced as Selena rested her head on his shoulder. "Its so peaceful."
Bruce nodded. "Mmhmm."
Selena looked up at her lover's face. "This is how I wish it could be. But its not going to stay this way, is it?"
Bruce looked at her, a slight somewhat sad smile on his lips. "No, no its not. Lets cherish this while it lasts."
"I agree." Selena replied softly, moving to kiss him.

Barbara's Apartment
Still Alive by Meatloaf suddenly started to play from the cell phone resting on her bedside table. A masculine hand flew out from under the covers, and a muttered "Ello" was muttered into the phone.
Moments later, Owen drew back the covers, sitting up and frowning at his phone. "Damn." He looked over at Barbara, who was still sleeping beside him. He smiled, brushed the hair away from her face and leaned down to kiss her. "Good morning, love."

Outside
"Oh, sure, we have Guardians," says Tim. "Well, one anyway. Ganthet. He's pretty cool, though I'm not sure what his opinion on diamonds is, actually."
Tim nods and goes off to enjoy the party.
<<It's nice, you know, feeling all this...happiness. No one is thinking of what COULD happen, the bad things that might be coming...>>
Warning. Yellow power ring in vicinity.
<<Where?>>
Ring has bonded to sentient Bruce Wayne.
<<...Batman? Ah, hell.>>
The next morning
Tim has not slept, instead meditating with the Ring. Something he learned while on "vacation," it puts him into deeper communion with the Emotional Spectrum.
From out of the depths of the colors, he hears a voice.
Notification: Bruce Wayne is awake.
<<Thank you. Please call him for me.>>
Contact initiated.
<<Mr. Wayne? I'm sorry to bother you, but I really need to talk to you. Could you just...kind of sit down and ask your ring to bring you here? I think it'll be easier for me to explain.>>
